Sonovia Develops Reusable Anti-viral Mask

According to Sonovia, an anti-viral mask can neutralize around 99% of the novel coronavirus even after being washed several times.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19 pandemic), the use of face masks to curb the spread of the virus has become ubiquitous around the world. The novel coronavirus has made its way to almost every corner of the world and has infected millions of individuals across the globe. There is a high demand for personal protective equipment (PPE), N95 masks, and surgical masks to curb the spread of the virus. The global pandemic has forced several governments around the world to force their national constituencies to wear face masks when they get out of the house.

Now, an Israeli company, Sonovia has developed a reusable anti-viral mask to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. According to the company, it can neutralize around 99% of the coronavirus even after being washed several times. The mask has been successfully tested during lab testing. Sonovia’s masks are coated in zinc oxide nanoparticles that destroy fungi, bacteria, and viruses. According to the company’s chief technology officer, Liat Goldhammer, in the coming future the fabric, used in a reusable anti-viral mask can be also used for hospitals, clothing, and protective equipment, can neutralize around 99% of the novel coronavirus.

The company’s clients include Weber Ultrasonics and Bruckner (German manufacturers), and hospitals in the United States and Germany. On the other hand, the world is dealing with a shortage of face masks and some countries have imposed limitations on the number of masks each person buys. N95 masks are quite effective in preventing the spread of the virus, intended to be used only in a short period. Some researchers around the world have developed several techniques that can be used to sterilize N95 masks and recharge them electrostatically to restore their original filtration capacity. Thus, N95 face masks can be effectively cleaned for extended use.
