In early 2020, Skoda Rapid received a new lease of life with the entry of a 1.0-liter TSI engine, and now, the Rapid lineup has grown with the addition of an automatic gearbox. A Czech manufacturer has launched the Rapid automatic in the Indian automotive market, with prices ranging from US$ 12882.21 and US$ 18040.52 (Rs 9.49 and 13.29 lakh). The manual variants of the Skoda Rapid are priced between US$ 10167.31 and US$ 16004.35. The automatic variants of the Rapid cost US$ 2036.18 (average) more than the corresponding manual variants.
However, according to the company, Rapid TSI automatic is the most affordable automatic sedan on sale in India. To date, the Rapid was available with only a six-speed manual transmission system, and now, the midsize sedan is available with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The same six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox was introduced in the VW Vento and VW Polo. The Rapid automatic is equipped with the same 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine that is good for 110 hp of power and 175 Nm of peak torque.
As previously revealed, the ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of the Rapid TSI automatic is 16.24 km per liter, the Rapid TSI manual is rated at 18.97 km per liter. Moreover, the Rapid automatic is available in the same trim levels as the manual version. The AMT range starts with the Rider Plus and includes Monte Carlo, Style, Onyx, and Ambition. The Rider Plus features a 6.5-inch touchscreen as standard, whereas the Monte Carlo and Style gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlights and wipers, cruise control, and reverse camera. The Rapid TSI automatic will go against the new Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, and VW Vento.
