Samsung Might Release A Smartphone With Two-Way Satellite Connectivity

The business has said it is developing solutions that may do down with the requirement for particular high-power wireless antenna chips within phones for satellite connection.

Samsung has announced that 5G NTN modem technology is available for direct communication across smartphones and satellites. According to the business, the technology will be consolidated into Exynos modems.

The organization asserted in a press release that its NTN technology, which meets the most recent 5G NTN standards set by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project. It helps in making sure that the scalability & interoperability is accurate among services supplied by global chip companies, smart device manufacture, & telecom carriers.

With its Exynos 5300 modem, Samsung's satellite connectivity technology can link to satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Exynos modems will offer two-way connectivity in the future, the same as Qualcomm's Snapdragon Satellite solution, according to the corporate. Text messages, pictures, and videos can be sent and obtained on phones using these modems.

Just a few weeks ago, Samsung's mobile CEO, TM Roh, said that the technology's capability is rather constrained. Now, the firm has launched its satellite connectivity solution for smartphones. Roh cited this as the basis that satellite connectivity was not included in the Galaxy S23 series.

Uncertainty exists around which Samsung products will employ the new communication technology. Yet, a large number of other smartphone producers also use Samsung's modem technology. The Tensor G2 chip of the Google Pixel 7 series, which is the same one that the company used as a prototype for its satellite communication technology, is built with such a Samsung Exynos 5300 modem.
