Oracle intends to develop its cloud-based services to India's public sector

Oracle claims that public sector companies and government bodies will prosper from adopting Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, which includes access to its Autonomous Database, which uses automation and machine learning.

Following the accreditation of its Hyderabad and Mumbai cloud regions for usage by the public sector and Government, the U.S.-based Oracle Corp. is preparing to grow its public sector business in India. Upon approval by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on August 11, 2021, Oracle hopes that governments and other public sectors in India will employ its cloud services and migrate their workloads on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

For around three decades, Oracle has been a participant in India's economic strategy. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is providing benefits to several existing customers. According to Oracle, many state governments in India, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka already use Oracle on-premise systems. Customers of Oracle include health, power, locomotive works, social justice, local bodies, and commercial taxes.

Oracle has created local data centers in the country, addressing data sovereignty concerns. It essentially assists its customers in modernizing their current Oracle infrastructures. According to Gartner's 2021 CIO survey for governments, more than half of government chief information officers (CIOs) intend to expand their cloud investment. It explains how the major issue pushing this quick move to the cloud is the cloud's opportunity to carry innovation, agility, and scalability. It will be interesting to see if any vendor's solutions can demonstrate return on investment if they want to thrive in the public sector.

Competition is intense in India's significant public cloud sector, which was worth US$ 3.6 billion in 2020 and is predicted to be worth US$ 9.5 billion by 2025, rising at 21.5 % of CAGR between the years 2020 and 25. Oracle competes alongside Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM cloud, and AWS in the public cloud market.
